Newly elected President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Volkan Bozkir will arrive Pakistan on July 27 (Monday), Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi confirmed on Thursday.

The foreign minister said a meeting between the two will be arranged, where he will brief the UNGA president on the situation in occupied Kashmir and present Pakistan’s stance on the matter.

On June 21, Qureshi had congratulated Turkey’s Bozkir on his election as the president of the next session of the UNGA.

“On behalf of the people and government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, I would like to extend my warm felicitation on your unanimous election by all member states as the President of the historic 75th Session of the UN General Assembly,” Qureshi said in a letter.

The visit by Bozkir comes amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and India and increased unprovoked firing at the Line of Control (LoC) targeting civilians by the Indian side.

“India’s relations with its neighbours, including China, Nepal and Bangladesh are getting tense day by day,” Qureshi said.

He added India’s ties in the region were deteriorating due to its Hindutva ideology. “Even Iran has dropped India from Chabahar project,” Qureshi added.

The foreign minister added India has been targeting civilians along LoC and committing violations of international laws.
