A technical glitch at K Electric’s Bin Qasim power plant unit disrupted the supply of 130 MW of power to the system.

According to electric sources, the demand for electricity in Karachi is 2700 MW and K Electric is supplying only 900 MW power from its system while 1020 MW power is being supplied from National Grid and IPPs. And the supply gap has reached 780 MW.

The sources further said that due to system malfunction, Lyari, Kharadar, North and New Karachi, Buffer Zone and Surjani have been without power since 9 am, while Federal B Area, Scheme 33, Orangi Town and Baldia are also experiencing power outages.

Consumers said that power supply has been suspended in North Karachi, New Karachi, Buffer Zone, Khuda Ki Basti and Surjani Town from 9 am.

Consumers further said that power outages are also going on in Federal B Area, Scheme 33, Orangi Town, Lyari and Baldia while power outages are also going on in different parts of the city in the name of local faults.
