IATA Audit team express satisfaction over performance of PIA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit Team has expressed satisfaction over the performance of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

According to the details, a team of international aviation body recently completed its audit of different departments of the airline, including its flight operation, ground handling, flight safety, and security and engineering.

The team arrived earlier this month on the 7th to review the performance of national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines.

It was reported that the IATA audit team was satisfied with the different departments including the company’s transparency and collaboration throughout.

The team also conducted an audit at the PIA head office. Furthermore, IATA experts will share the related findings and observations soon.

The safety audit is conducted every two years with the last one done in 2018.

PIA Cheif Executive Officer (CEO) Air Marshal Arshad Malik thanked the team and praised them for their professionalism.

PIA Decides Not to Challenge Ban

Earlier PIA decided not to appeal against the European Aviation Safety Agency’s decision to ban flights for six months.

The decision of the CAA Safety and Quality Management System will be awaited. There are also objections.

According to sources, the CAA, as a regulator, is likely to oppose the decision on the appeal without clearance.

The spokesman said that PIA would file an appeal for the European Aviation Safety Agency in due course, adding that PIA had completed preparations for the appeal.

Fake License Pilots Scandal

In June Pakistan International Airline (PIA) was banned in Europe following a fake pilot license scandal in Pakistan.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) suspended PIA’s air operation permit for European countries for 6 months.

The suspension by the European Union Air Safety Agency took effect on July 1, 2020, after which all PIA flights from Europe will be temporarily canceled.

The spokesman said the PIA was in constant touch with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and was taking steps to address their concerns.

“We hope that the suspension will end soon due to the steps taken by the government and the administration,” he said.

PIA will lose a total of Rs 7.20 billion if flights to European countries are canceled, PIA officials said.
