KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), has made a sudden jump in airfares for Saudi Arabia.

The one-way fare from Karachi to Jeddah, Madinah or Dammam is increased to Rs. 127,000 while the fare from Lahore, Islamabad or Peshawar to Jeddah and Madinah is increased to Rs. 133,000.

The one-way fare from Lahore, Islamabad or Peshawar to Riyadh and Dammam apprteciated to 131,000. Earlier, the fare from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia was 84,000.

PIA has informed all its travel agents about the new fares. PIA sources said the fare hike was due to the Saudi government leaving 25 per cent seats vacant on flights due to Coronavirus.

Note that, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will operate flights to Saudi Arabia from tomorrow.

The flight will depart from Lahore and Islamabad for Saudi Arabia.

Earlier, PIA had started booking for Saudi Arabia with permission from September 15.
PIA will use 777 and Airbus 320 aircraft for Saudi Arabia, PIA spokesman Abdullah Khan said.

Due to the PIA code, it was limited to 23 flights a week. Due to the huge rush on bookings, PIA has sought permission from the Saudi administration for 28 more flights after which flight operations will be expanded.

The national airline will operate 23 weekly flights to Saudi Arabia. PIA officials have asked the Saudi government to allow 26 flights a week. Initially, PIA will operate flights to three Saudi cities, Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh.

It should be noted that Saudi Arabia has finally resumed international flight operations, which had been suspended for more than six months due to the spread of the coronavirus.

The Saudi Civil Aviation Department has said that partial international flights have been launched at all international airports for exceptional categories of travel. The first flight left Saudi Arabia, the Civil Aviation Department said.
