On Tuesday, Abdullah Abdullah, the Chairman of the Afghan High Council for National Reconciliation, called on the Prime Minister Imran Khan. During the meeting, the latter expressed his best wishes for the Afghan peace talks’ success.

PM Khan said during the meeting,

“Abdullah Abdullah’s visit will open new avenues in the relationship between the two countries.”

PM Khan discussed the Afghan issue and stressed that there was no military solution to it.

“I am happy that the international community acknowledged our stance for peace besides also admitting role of Pakistan in the Afghan peace talks,” said PM Khan.

Imran Khan lauded the peace settlement between the United States (US) and Taliban and termed it as a major achievement. PM Khan hoped that Afghan leaders would now work together for a political solution of the issues.

While appreciating the intra-Afghanistan talks held on 12th September, the PM hoped that the leadership would be benefiting from the historic development.

“Afghan parties had to work for ceasefire and decline in violence,” said Imran Khan.

He went on to say that Pakistan would also extend economic support towards Afghanistan after the success of the peace talks. He added that both countries now can expand their bilateral trade manifold.

PM Khan also expressed his wish of visiting the neighboring country and said he awaits an invitation from the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
