Pakistan Authorities on Thursday closed 22 schools across the country for violating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set to curb the spread of COVID-19.

According to the details, just two days after the educational institutions opened in Pakistan after six-month closure, 22 schools that failed to implement health protocols devised to curb the spread of the dread virus were sealed.

According to the National Command and Operations Center, 22 educational institutions includes 16 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, one in Islamabad, and five in Azad Kashmir.

NCOC officials said the virus spread and cases emerged in the institutions that did not take precautionary measures.

Here in Sindh province, eight staff members of two colleges in Matiari tested positive for the novel COVID-19. Other staff members and teachers of both the colleges will also undergo the coronavirus test.

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani in his statement said that both the colleges in Matiari district have been sealed. Saeed Ghani has issued orders to seal schools in different areas for violating Coronavirus SOPs.

Education Minister Sindh directed Director-General Private Schools to take strict action against the educational institutions, and also cancel the registration of schools.

Surprise Visits

Sindh Minister for Education and Labor Saeed Ghani also paid surprise visits to various government and private schools and colleges on Wednesday.

Ghani also urged the students and teachers of the school to fully implement the SOPs.

He directed that sanitizers be provided in all schools and if possible in every classroom and sprays should be carried out at least two to three times a week in the entire school and in all classrooms.

Pakistan Reopen Schools

On September 15;  Schools and colleges across Pakistan reopened Tuesday ending a six-month-long closure.

The government had decided to close schools, colleges, and universities in March in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Sindh, however, had suspended educational activities in the province on February 27 after the detection of the first COVID-19 case in Karachi.

Just a day before the reopening of educational institutions, Prime Minister PM Imran Khan also welcome the children back to school.

On Sept. 7, the country’s Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood, while announcing the reopening of some 300,000 schools, colleges, and universities, said they will reopen the education institutions in phases to avoid another wave of the virus.
