The Islamabad Accountability Court has on Wednesday approved the plea of former president Asif Ali Zardari seeking exemption from personal appearance in the park lane reference hearing.

According to the details,  Judge Azam Khan resumed the hearing of the case. Farooq H Naek, Asif Zardari’s lawyer, appeared before the court and requested the judge to grant his client exemption from personal appearance in the hearing.

All co-accused, except one named Sher Ali, nominated in the case were in attendance in court. The court started recording the testimony of witness Ahsan Aslam.

Let it be known that former president Asif Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur and other accused face charges of corruption through fake bank accounts and embezzlement in the financial facility for Park Lane Private Limited and Parthenon (Pvt) Limited.

On October 15, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)  issued arrest warrants for the former president and Co-Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari.

The anti-graft body has issued arrest warrants against Asif Ali Zardari in the fake accounts case. According to NAB, the arrest warrants have been issued over suspicious transactions worth Rs 8 billion.

The former president, who is nominated in multiple corruption cases filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), is out on bail granted by the Islamabad High Court on medical grounds last year. Recently, he was indicted in a money laundering, Park Lane properties, and Thatta water supply references instituted by the National Accountability Bureau.

On October 11, the PPP co-chairperson was shifted to a private hospital in Karachi on Sunday evening after he felt “unwell”, said the party.
