France Should Stop Sponsoring Blasphemous Sketches: Allama Tahir Ashrafi

Allama Tahir Ashrafi, Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council and Special Representative of the Prime Minister for Interfaith Harmony urged OIC to raise its voice against the publication of blasphemous Sketches and to enact legislation at the UN level.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Allama Tahir-ul-Ashrafi said that everyone must play their role in eradicating extremism, the French government should stop sponsoring blasphemous sketches.

The Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council said that we want legislation in the United Nations, effective voice in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and for this purpose Foreign Minister, Prime Minister of Pakistan and he as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister will meet with leaders of Muslim and non-Muslim countries.

He said that organizations around the world working on interfaith harmony should also talk to them and pass a law from the United Nations that criminalizes the blasphemy of the religions, all the holy books and holy figures so that this series of hurting someone’s sentiments ends on a permanent basis.

He said we have no one dearer than the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Today, the French ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry and Pakistan expressed its reservations about it and the steps that will be taken collectively will be visible to all.

On the occasion, a representative of the Christian community said that this incident is reprehensible and it requires strict action from the Prime Minister’s Office to the level of the Union Council.

“The Christian community has condemned this incident. We stand by our Muslim brothers and denounce it at every forum,” he said.

Tahir Ashrafi said that we are going to form an Interfaith Harmony Council all over the country which will be from the centre to the level of Union Council and this message of tolerance, peace and love will spread from Pakistan to the whole world.
