World Mental Health Day is marked on the 10th of October every year. Experts hold activities and events to raise awareness regarding issues affecting our health mentally.

On this day, President Dr Arif Alvi speaks about mental health awareness and stressed on the need to battle depression.

Taking to Twitter, the President wrote, “You are braver than u believe, stronger than u appear & smarter than u think. Do what’s necessary, then do what’s possible & suddenly you will be doing the impossible as today is only a start for a happier tomorrow. Lets battle stress & depression. No taboos #WorldMentalHealthDay”

President Alvi also made it clear that everyone is braver, stronger and smarter in his/her own way. We only need to do what is necessary to be happy.

This year, the day comes at a time when the world struggles to fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Around a year has passed, but coronavirus has strengthened its roots. Several countries are now even experiencing the second wave of the virus outbreak.

According to a news release by the World Health Organization (WHO), it is expected that the need for mental health and psychosocial support will substantially increase in the coming months and years.

Investment in mental health programs at the national and international levels, which have already suffered from years of chronic underfunding, is now more important than it has ever been.
