PM Imran Khan announces Electronic Voting in Pakistan

While briefing the nation on the new electoral reforms, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday announced to introduce electronic voting in Pakistan for clear and transparent elections in the country.

According to the details, Imran Khan in his address proposed new electoral reforms in a bid to organize transparent elections in the country. They are:

  • Electronic voting to avoid rigging in elections
  • Overseas Pakistanis will be participating in the elections through a new and advanced process

  • Senate Elections will be free of secret balloting
  • Voting by show of hands in Senate elections to end rigging and corruption.

Prime Minister Imran Khan also promised to make Gilgit Baltistan an interim province. Prime Minister Imran Khan said Gilgit Baltistan Elections 2020 witnessed a record turnout.

He commented about the rigging allegations in the past elections and said “In 2018 Both these parties jointly field 24 petitions in Election commission whereas PTI Alone field 24 Petitions. None of there petitioner presented themselves before EC after first hearing ”

The PM said only 1970 general polls are regarded as fair and transparent in the country’s history in which the opposition accepted their defeat.

He said a committee was formed under the head of Federal Minister Pervez Khattak over rigging allegations in 2018 General Elections, which was attended by the opposition parties only at once, and then their leaders skipped the meetings.

PM Khan invited the opposition parties to come forward and join hands with the federal government for electoral reforms.

He also thanked the people of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) for bestowing their confidence in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the general elections.
