SC allows transfer of graft cases against Zardari to Karachi NAB Court

The Apex Court on Tuesday approved the plea of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari seeking transfer of corruption cases filed against him in Islamabad’s accountability courts to Karachi.

According to the details Justice Umar Ata Bandial while hearing the plea, set aside the SC registrar’s office’s objections.

The SC judge ordered that the case be fixed before a bench for hearing within two weeks.

The former president through his lawyer, Farooq H Naek challenged the registrar’s office’s objections. On November 3, he approached the top court, requesting the transfer of graft cases filed against him by the NAB from Islamabad’s courts to similar courts in Karachi.

Asif Ali Zardari in his plea stated that he is unable to appear in accountability courts in the federal capital due to his illness as he was suffering from various ailments and had been critically ill.

He said the cases were being heard in Islamabad courts despite the fact that all the accused persons, witnesses, and documents are from Karachi.

On Monday Pakistan Peoples Party PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari was shifted to hospital after his health deteriorated.

The former President Asif Ali Zardari was discharged from Karachi Hospital on October 11. However, he has been shifted again after his health became progressively worse.

The former president, who is nominated in multiple corruption cases filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), is out on bail granted by the Islamabad High Court on medical grounds last year. Recently, he was indicted in a money laundering, Park Lane properties, and Thatta water supply references instituted by the National Accountability Bureau.
