Pakistan has recorded 3,369 new novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and 72 deaths in the past 24 hours.

According to the COVID-19 portal, the national caseload now stands at 438,425 with 8,796 deaths.

During the period, a total of 42,222 samples were tested, out of which 3,369 turned out to be positive.

As per the National Command Operation Center (NCOC), the number of active cases stands at 46,629 while 383,000 patients have recovered from the disease so far.

On the other hand, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz said the government is taking effective steps to deal with the intensifying second wave of Covid-19.

In a tweet, he said public health and protection of people’s lives is the foremost priority of the government.

The Minister appealed to the people to strictly adhere to the precautionary steps and avoid participating in public gatherings or activities that put their health and lives in danger.

It may be recalled that Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho on Friday complained that the federal government has not taken provinces into confidence regarding the coronavirus vaccination timeline.

The provincial minister said it was difficult to say when the vaccine will be available for the public, adding that there has been no contact with vaccine manufacturers.

The federal government, however, is working on multiple strategies to obtain the vaccine for which $150 million had already been allocated.

Pechuho lamented that she usually finds out about the federal government’s stance on vaccines through media reports.
