The Federal Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, has approved to grant 150 million dollars to procure anti-Covid vaccine.

Federal Cabinet meeting, which took place on Tuesday in Islamabad, gave details about the important decisions taken by Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on National Health Dr. Faisal Sultan along with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz.

The Special Assistant said, for this purpose, few companies have been shortlisted, contacted and initial conversation has been started with them.

He said in first phase of providing the vaccine, our priority will be healthcare workers and old age people who are most vulnerable to the virus.

Commenting on PDM’s recent public rally in Multan, Shibli Faraz urged the opposition not to play with the lives of people for its personal gains as the second wave of coronavirus is at its peak in the country.

He said public rallies are banned to protect people from the Coronavirus and we will deal with the violators legally instead of putting hard restrictions.

He said the forum was informed that these projects are planned to keep environment clean and attract foreign investment.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Imran Khan had given approval to allocate the US $100 million and allowed advance payment for procurement of the vaccine at the earliest.

Coronavirus Situation in Pakistan

In the past 24 hours, 40 more people succumbed to the novel coronavirus, taking the death toll to 8,091. Whereas after the country reported fresh 2,458 COVID-19 cases, the national tally hits 400,482.

As many as 1,863 patients have recovered from the virus during the last 24 hours, whereas 2,165 are still critical.

The positivity rate of COVID-19 cases reaches up to 5.9 percent during 24 hours. The total count of active cases increased up to 49,105.
