KP extends winter vacation for schools till Jan 31

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government on Tuesday extended the winter vacations of schools till January 31st, 2021 owing to the freezing conditions in the province.

According to the notification, the schools in the upper region of the province will also be reopening from February 1.

Pakistan on Monday announced that all schools across the country will re-open from January 18, after remaining closed for nearly two months due to the second wave of the novel coronavirus.

Announcing the decision in a news conference after a meeting of the provincial education ministers in the capital Islamabad, the Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said some 300,000 schools, colleges, and universities will reopen in phases starting from Jan. 18.

“All education institutions will reopen in phases, students from grade 8 to 11 will join schools from Jan. 18, while students in the nursery to grade 8 will be back to schools from Jan. 25,” Mahmood said.

All universities and colleges across the country will re-open from Feb. 1, he added. The decision will also be applied to over 30,000 religious seminaries.

On November 26, 2020, the government had closed all schools to in-person education until Jan. 10 after the country was hit by the second wave of the novel disease.

Coronavirus in Pakistan

Pakistan in past 24 hours, recorded 1,947 new cases of the novel coronavirus confirming the national tally to 490,476.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 59 more people died during this period, taking the death toll from the dread disease to 10,409.

A total of 35,073 samples were tested, out of which 1,947 turned out to be positive. The national positivity ratio of infections was recorded at 5.55 percent.
