Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that the government will not put any obstacle in the way of the opposition’s protest outside the Election Commission of Pakistan’s Office.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Thursday along with Federal Law Minister Forough Naseem and Defense Minister Pervez Khattak, Sheikh Rashid expressed hope that the opposition’s protest would remain within the ambit of law and constitution.

He said that it is expected that the opposition will also respect the goodwill of the government.

It may be recalled that the PDM, an alliance of opposition parties, had announced to protest in front of the Election Commission against the non-decision of the foreign funding case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

On the occasion, the Law Minister said that the Election Commission is a constitutional body and under it, the opposition is also going to participate in the elections.

“I am going to take part in whatever election and assembly I object to,” he quipped.
Referring to the Senate elections, Sheikh Rashid also said that he hoped that the opposition would participate in the elections to be held before March.

Sheikh Rashid while responding to the opposition’s criticism said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman should not give statements that are provocative and tend to spread hate.

Explaining the details of madrassas in the federal capital, Sheikh Rashid said that there are 562 madrassas in Islamabad out of which 92 are registered.

“We have no objection to the registration of new madrassas,” he said.
