Pakistan announces contribution of $25,000 to UN Peace-Building Fund

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has announced a token contribution of 25,000 dollars to the Secretary General’s Peace-building Fund.

While speaking in a virtual High Level Replenishment Conference for UN Secretary General’s Peace-building Fund, Qureshi said as a major troop and police contributing country, Pakistan take pride in its rich UN peacekeeping history.

He reaffirmed the commitment to multilateral cooperation for preserving peace, preventing conflict and realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He said the pledge underscores Pakistan’s longstanding political, human and financial commitment to UN’s endeavors in peacekeeping and peace-building.

He said over the last 60 years, Pakistan’s peacekeepers have represented the blue flag in 46 UN Missions across four continents of the world.

Meanwhile, talking to media at Parliament House, the Foreign Minister rejected any possibility of bilateral trade with India.

The Foreign Minister said Kashmir is not an internal issue of India but an internationally recognized dispute.

He said Pakistan has raised the Kashmir issue at international fora including the United Nations.

Speaking on the Afghan peace process, the Foreign Minister said there is no military solution to the Afghan issue and comprehensive dialogue is the only way forward.

He said priorities of the new US administration under Joe Biden’s presidency are in line with our vision we will continue to work for peace with it.
