The Government of Punjab has retained the ban on Basant (Kite Flying Celebration) festival across the province.

According to the details, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said no one will be allowed to fly kites in the province on Basant.

Usman Bazdar held a meeting with Provincial Law Minister Raja Basharat in Lahore to discuss suggestions related to granting conditional permission to celebrate Basant.

Following the conclusion of meeting, Punjab CM said that government could not permit a throat-cutting kite flying festival.

In addition to this he said that “No one will be allowed to fly kites in Punjab putting people’s lives at risk.”

Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar also ordered stern action against kite makers, string makers, sellers and kite flyers.

The decision has come amid reports of underway preparations from Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Sahiwal for Basant in the second week of February.

It may be recalled that Basant festival was banned in Punjab owing to deaths caused by sharply polished threads used to fly kites.
