ECP widens scope of investigation of illegal foreign funding

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has broadened the scope of investigation of foreign funding cases.

As per the details, notices have been issued by ECP to 19 political parties including Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

On the other hand, notices have also been issued to JUI-F, MQM-Pakistan, GDA, TLP, JWP, National Party. Jamat-e-Islami, and others.

The heads of these parties have been summoned on Wednesday (today). Sources said that the decision to summon the leads has been taken at the request of PTI.

Earlier, ECP assured that an open hearing of the foreign funding case would only be held after the report of the scrutiny committee.

ECP spokesperson said that an open hearing of the foreign funding case will be held by the electrocal body after the report.

The spokesperson said that there are difficulties over holding the opening hearing of the case. The spokesperson added that the scrutiny committee is meeting in the presence of the representatives of the parties.

Apart from that, the spokesperson urged people to avoid making unnecessary statements without any evidence.
