Pakistan Completes 182km Of 213km-Long Fence At Afghan Border

QUETTA: Relevant officials briefed that 182 km of the 213 km long fence on the Pakistan-Afghan border have been completed and work on the remaining 31 km is expected to be completed by April.

According to the details, this was stated by a senior official during a meeting between civil and military officials here on Tuesday.

The meeting, chaired by Balochistan home minister mir Ziaullah Langove, discussed issues related to a land settlement between the two countries due to border fencing, border fencing plan and overall law and order situation.

The meeting was also briefed on the steps to be taken in the context of bilateral talks with the Afghan government and aspirations for land settlement of tribal elders.

Participants were told that the federal government was erecting a fence on the Pak-Afghan border to prevent terrorism and maintain law and order in Balochistan and other areas along the border.

The officials also reviewed the implementation of decisions taken in the last two meetings and suggested further steps to be taken on border fencing issues.

The Home Minister directed the District Administration and the Board of Revenue to submit their reports at the earliest to resolve the issues related to land settlement.

Home Minister Ziaullah Langove said the border fence helped Pakistan thwart several terrorist plots.

Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, Additional Chief Secretary (Interior) Hafiz Abdul Majeed, Quetta Commissioner Asfandyar Kakar, Quetta DIG Muhammad Akram Azhar, Chaman Scouts Commandant Colonel Muhammad Rashid and Qila Abdullah Deputy Commissioner Tariq Javed. Mengal attended the meeting.
