Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday approved the increase in the salaries of federal government employees.

According to the sources, a meeting was held between the Prime Minister Imran Khan and the representatives of the Committee formed by the protesting employees.

Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmed, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan were also present in the meeting.

Finance Ministry officials briefed the Prime Minister during the meeting. The meeting also discussed the burden on the national exchequer after the increase in salaries.

According to the sources the cabinet will approve for an increase in the salaries of government employees through summary circulation.

Sources added that a salary increase notification will be issued after cabinet approval.

It should be noted that Islamabad police fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesting government employees at D-Chowk. The protesters asked the government to increase their basic salaries.

Many protesters were arrested during the protest. The government servants had announced the protest two weeks ago.
