SC orders to shift Omar Sheikh to rest house, allowed family meetings

The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Tuesday rejected the Sindh government’s plea seeking review of release orders of Omar Saeed Sheikh, the prime accused of Daniel Pearl Murder Case.

According to the details, Supreme Court today ordered to remove Omar Sheikh from death cell, put all suspects in general barracks, and then be shifted to rest house in two days.

The Supreme Court has also allowed Omar Saeed Sheikh daily family meetings from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Sindh government moved a petition in Supreme Court seeking review of its decision of acquitting Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, the principal accused in the murder case of US journalist Daniel Pearl.

The Sindh government through its prosecutor general moved the petition in the apex court, pleading with it to review its decision of acquitting the main accused.

The United States Embassy in Islamabad on Monday paid tribute to slain American journalist Daniel Pearl on his death anniversary, saying the US is committed to securing justice for his family and to holding those who murdered him 19 years ago accountable.

“We will not forget Daniel Pearl. On this day in 2002, American Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was murdered by terrorists while pursuing a story in Pakistan. Today, we remember his legacy as we continue to speak out against extremism,” the Embassy stated in a tweet.

In another tweet, the Embassy stated: “The United States is committed to securing justice for Daniel Pearl’s family and to holding those who murdered him 19 years ago accountable.”

The Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl went missing on January 23 in Karachi and on February 22 he was declared dead after authorities received a horrific videotape containing visuals of him being brutally murdered.
