The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has welcomed the declaration of a ceasefire between the Indian and Pakistani armies across the disputed borders in Kashmir.

According to the details, in a statement on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation affirmed that the UAE has close historical ties with the Republic of India and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and that it commends the efforts of the two countries to reach this achievement.

It also stressed that this is an important step towards achieving security, stability and prosperity in the region.

The ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to a permanent ceasefire between the two friendly countries in Kashmir to the benefit of both sides and committing to diplomatic means — through dialogue — to build bridges of confidence and establish a lasting peace that achieves the aspirations of both peoples.

Earlier Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar while talking to BOL news said that Pakistan and India have agreed to restore the 2003 ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary, suggesting a new push to defuse years of tensions.

DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar said that the Indian Ceasefire violations caused the most casualties in 2018, whereas 2019 saw the highest number of ceasefire violations in which 310 civilians were killed and about 1,600 were injured.

Major General Babar Iftikhar said there have been more than 13,500 ceasefire violations since 2003. He added that the hot line contact between Pakistan and India has been going on since 1987.

The tensions have been simmering between the two nuclear-armed neighbors since 2016.
