Islamabad High Court has reserved a verdict on the petition filed by Pakistan People’s Party challenging Senate chairman election results.

As per the details, the court reserved the verdict on the maintainability of the petition. Chief Justice Athar Mianallah took up the plea.

IHC judge suggested during the hearing that the petition could submit a reference to the National Assembly speaker under Article 63 to get the grievance redressed.

The judge asked, “Has the Senate chairman ever been removed from the post in the past?” Justice Minallah asked Farooq H Naek, who represented Gillani. “What is the procedure for removal of the Senate chairman?”

The judge also mentioned that the court refrains from interfering in the matter. He said, “You can take the matter to a Senate committee.” The Council mentioned that no committee has the powers to dislodge the Senate Chairman.

PPP challenges rejection of votes in IHC

Earlier on March 22, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has challenged the results of the Chairman Senate election in Islamabad High Court.

As per the details, a plea was submitted by the lawyer of the PPP candidate for the Senate election. The lawyer stated in the plea that the rejection of seven votes of Yousaf Raza Gillani was illegal.

According to details, PPP has requested the court to nullify the rejection of votes. PPP has also declared Yousaf Raza Gillani as Chairman Senate.
