Pakistan To Play Its Conciliatory Role For Peace And Stability In Region: FM

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan will continue to play its conciliatory role for peace and stability in the region including the Afghan peace process.

According to details, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi had a telephone conversation with his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar during which issues of mutual interest including bilateral relations and the Afghan peace process were discussed.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to continue consultations for peace and stability in the region, including the Afghan peace process, while the two Foreign Ministers also discussed in detail the Pak-Afghan relations and the Afghan peace process.

The Foreign Minister stressed the need for early completion of the Transit Trade Agreement to promote bilateral trade cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi reiterated his invitation to his Afghan counterpart to visit Pakistan, for which the Afghan Foreign Minister thanked Shah Mehmood Qureshi and hinted at an early visit to Pakistan.

The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan considers peace in Afghanistan essential for peace and stability in the region while Pakistan has been in favour of a peaceful, comprehensive and lasting political solution to the Afghan problem from the very beginning.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi also said that there is a historic opportunity for lasting peace in Afghanistan in the form of inter-Afghan dialogue.

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi added that all parties need to take advantage of this rare opportunity to work hard for a lasting and comprehensive political solution to the Afghan problem.
