PDM receives nomination papers for Chairman, Deputy chairman Senate

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has received nomination papers for chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate.

According to the details, the PDM has already received the papers of Yousaf Raza Gilani for the post of Chairman Senate and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri for the post of Deputy Chairman.

Papers for chairman and deputy were received by PPP leaders Sherry Rehman, Farooq Naik, and JUI’s Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman. The Opposition members also obtained a sample of ballot papers from the Senate Secretary.

According to the Secretary Senate, the green ballot paper is for the Chairman Senate and the pink ballot paper is for the Deputy Chairman. The government has re-nominated Sadiq Sanjrani for the chairmanship of the senate. Whereas the name of deputy chairman senate will be announced today.

It is to be noted that the election for the chairman and deputy chairman of the senate will be held tomorrow (March 12).

The race for Senate chairman and deputy chairman seems to be quite tough for the government as the opposition enjoys a majority in the upper house of parliament.

Currently, the upper house of parliament has 99 members (excluding Ishaq Dar of the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz who is currently in London).  The ruling coalition has 47 members and the opposition has 52 members.
