Supreme Court Judge Justice Qazi Faiz Isa on Monday remarked that the Punjab government’s Local Government Ordinance is an attack on the Supreme Court.

According to the details, while expressing anger over the introduction of Punjab Local Government Ordinance, the Supreme Court remarked that the Punjab government is intoxicated with power and wants to separate Punjab from the country.

The Top Court Judge remarked that it seems that there is a plan to repeat the East Pakistan tragedy in Punjab.

“Should the government persist in breaking the law?” He asked. The country does not belong to the Punjab government but to us. Democracy thrives on local government. Said SC Judge.

He said that in simple words Punjab government does not want to hold local body elections. He also inquired about the number of members in the Punjab Assembly.

Additional Advocate General Punjab said that Punjab Assembly has 374 members. Qazi Faez Isa asked whether the Governor of Punjab is more qualified than these 374 members.

The Justice asked whether the Governor of Punjab is the Viceroy, whether the Governor of Punjab is the representative of the people or is he the selection of the President. Have we re-entered the British Raj? He asked.

Qazi Faez Isa said that the “Governor could not make any political statement.  He cannot be politically active. The Punjab government is subject to the Election Commission and the Election Commission has the same powers as the Supreme Court.”
