A 5.3 magnitude earthquake jolts Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Islamabad, Peshawar and its surrounding areas here on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the details, the earthquake struck parts of the KP province, the federal capital and surrounding areas. Experiencing the tremours, area residents panicked and came out of their houses.

According to the Seismological Centre (SE), the depth of the earthquake was measured to be 159 kilometres (KM), while the bordering area of Hindukush Region Afghanistan was recognized as the epicentre of the earthquake.

Apart from Islamabad, Peshawar, tremors were also felt in Balakot, Khyber, Mansehra and other areas.

So far no casualties have been reported.

Previously, earthquake tremors were felt near Quetta, Quetta District, Balochistan and spread fear and panic among the people and they came out of their houses reciting the Kalima Tayyaba.

According to the seismological centre, the magnitude of the quake was 4.7 to 4.8. Epicentre location corrected by 12 km towards North. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface.

The depth of the quake was 25 km underground.
