Another attack on Hindu religious site, frenzied mob vandalises temple

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken notice of a video clip that has been spreading on social media showing an enraged crowd destroying a Hindu temple.

According to social media reports, the incident happened in Rahim Yar Khan‘s village Bhong. Hundreds of people armed with sticks can be seen inside the temple chanting slogans and smashing items to bits in the footage.

Dr. Shahbaz Gill, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication, took to Twitter to announce that the PM Office had taken notice of the tragic and terrible occurrence.

According to Gill, the prime minister has instructed the district administration to investigate the incident and take serious measures against the culprits.

“Pakistan’s Constitution provides freedom and protection to minorities to perform their worship freely,” he said.

As per the media reports, a mob of over two dozen people vandalized the Sidhi Vinayak temple, MNA Ramesh Kumar Vankwani was quoted as saying.

Minister of Human Rights Shireen Mazari condemned the incident, saying, “The act is a breach of the Constitution and the basic human rights of Pakistanis.”

“MoHR has been in contact with RYK police since yesterday to guarantee action against the culprits – received a report – following up – our Parliamentary Secretary is going to visit today,” she said.

In December of last year, a frenzied mob set fire to a Hindu saint’s shrine Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak.
