PTA restores TikTok after assurances from the platform

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Friday lifted the ban on TikTok after assurances from the social media platform.

PTA restored the services on assurances that the popular video-sharing platform will control immoral and indecent content.

The statement added that following the imposition of the ban on July 20, 2021, PTA remained in contact with the TikTok management

Senior management of TikTok after continuous engagement with PTA authorities has assured its commitment to take necessary measures to control immoral content in accordance with local laws and societal norms.

“The company also assured that the users who are continuously involved in uploading unlawful content will be blocked from using the platform,” PTA said in a statement on Twitter.

“Keeping in view the assurances, the authority has decided to lift the ban on TikTok forthwith,” it added.

PTA will also continue to monitor the platform in order to ensure that unlawful content contrary to Pakistan’s law and societal values is not disseminated.
