Women playing their role in country’s development: Yasmin Rashid

LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said here on Saturday that no nation could prosper without meaningful contribution of women population.

Speaking as a chief guest at the ‘Woman Empowerment and International Women’s Day’ event organised by the Pakistan Medical Association, she said that women were getting recognition in every walk of life.

Dr Yasmin Rashid said, “Prime Minister Imran Khan has always supported me as a woman. As elder sister I took along my brothers and sisters. Without bringing women at par with men no nation can prosper. Islam has emphasised the rights of women. My parents never discriminated in male and female children.

“Good upbringing of girls is primary responsibility of parents. A mother can do everything for her children. We have hired 500 male nurses for the first time in health department. I salute all great and courageous women.”

On March 8, Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari had said that the government had taken various steps to provide a conducive working environment for women and girls.

Addressing the launching ceremony of the National Gender Policy Framework here in the Ministry of Planning Development & Special Initiatives, she had said that the Ministry of Human Rights was only talking about women rights.

The minister had said that legislation had been enacted for the rights and protection of women and children in the country. She had said that the government had a responsibility to protect the rights of its citizens.
