Freedom struggle begins again against foreign conspiracy: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: In his first tweet after being voted out as the prime minister, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday said Pakistan became an independent state in 1947, but the freedom struggle begins again today against a foreign conspiracy of regime change.

“It is always the people of the country who defend their sovereignty and democracy,” Imran Khan tweeted.

The National Assembly on Sunday passed the no confidence resolution against Imran Khan with 174 votes. With this Imran Khan ceases to hold the office of prime minister.

The result was announced by Presiding Officer Sardar Ayaz Sadiq who chaired the proceedings of the house after Asad Qaiser announced his resignation from the seat of speakership. Dissident Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf MNAs were also present during the voting.

The National Assembly will now elect a new leader of the House. Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif  has been fielded by the opposition as its candidate for the slot of prime minister.

Meanwhile, the chair announced that nomination papers for the slot of prime minister can be submitted by 2:00 pm on Sunday (today), while scrutiny of the papers will be conducted by 3:00 pm the same day.

He said election for the office of prime minister will be held on Monday. The chair adjourned the House to meet again at 11:00 am on Monday.

Taking the floor after the passage of no confidence resolution against Imran Khan, Shehbaz Sharif expressed the commitment to take forward the country and make it a great nation whilst forgetting bitterness of the past.

Shehbaz Sharif said we want to health the woes and wounds of the nation. We will not take revenge from anybody. He said there will be no injustice or excesses and innocent people will not be sent behind the bars. He however, said that the law will take its course.

The PML-N President said we respect the judiciary. He vowed to run the affairs of the country in consultations and taking along the institutions.

Shehbaz Sharif also thanked other allied parties for demonstrating unprecedented unity, solidarity and discipline.  He was confident that this unity will again build Pakistan.
