ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan on Monday said his party was going to file a reference in court against the chief election commissioner (CEC).

“An independent body should appoint a chief election commissioner,” Imran Khan said admitting that his government made mistake in appointing the CEC. Talking to journalists, he said he did not know that the CEC would turn out to be a bias person.

It is pertinent here to mention that Imran Khan’s government, after its controversial decision of dissolving the National Assembly by rejecting the no-confidence motion against him, had asked the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold general elections within 90 days, for which the ECP had excused saying that it was not prepared for the elections.

On the foreign funding case against his party, the PTI chief said cases related to foreign funding should be run against all the political parties. No other party but the PTI had a record of foreign funding, he maintained. He said the PTI did not receive any illegal foreign funding and the case was filed by the man who was expelled from the party.

On his Russia visit as the prime minister, he said his government was signing a deal with Russia for buying gas, weapons and wheat. He said the Foreign Office and Army were on-board on the Russia visit.

“I consulted the state institutions, whether I should go to Russia amid the current situation or not. The institutes agreed to my visit at the same time,” he said.

On allegation of embezzlement from the national exchequer, Imran Khan said he took gifts from Tosha Khana after paying 50 per cent of their prices. He said loads of the gifts were received at his residence at Bani Gala, which he deposited in Tosha Khana.
