ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbassi on Tuesday said the oppressors would be held accountable after dissolving the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Talking to media in Islamabad, Shahid Abbasi said the accountability watchdog would be held accountable now. He said the NAB chairman remained silent on corruption of the government of former PM Imran Khan.

The NAB chief should tell how many politicians he had arrested and how much money was recovered from them, he asked.

“On directive of one minister, the accountability bureau abased and arrested politicians. The NAB chairman took orders from Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran. Time had come that the NAB chairman would reply,” he said.

“We do not believe in vengeance but facts regarding the corruption carried out over last four years will be presented before the people,” the former PM said adding that his party had always practiced the politics of dignity.

The PML-N leader said the present government would make efforts to improve economic condition of the country.

Meanwhile, former special assistant to prime minister Shahbaz Gill and former advisor to prime minister on accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar on Tuesday wondered that who put their names on the stop list, when there was no government and voting on no-confidence motion was underway.

In a tweet, Shahbaz Gill said on the one hand, the most corrupt person in Pakistan was made the prime minister through a foreign conspiracy with the help of horse trading. “On the other hand, on the night of April 9 and 10, when the no-confidence motion was not even completed, who was in such a hurry to put our names (on the list)?” he asked.

He said he was going to challenge the illegal act in the Islamabad High Court.
