The Punjab Assembly will resume its session in Lahore Sunday (today) at 11:30 am. During the proceedings, the members will elect Leader of the House.

Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Hamza Shahbaz of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) are the two contestants for the office of the chief minister.

The new Leader of the House will be elected on the basis of Division of the House.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked all members of the provincial assembly to ensure their vote to Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for the election of the chief minister.

In a tweet, Imran Khan said any Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) member of provincial assembly (MPA) going against the party direction, including abstaining from vote, would be disqualified and would face strict disciplinary action.

On March 28, the PML-Q had decided to support Imran Khan in the no-confidence voting in the National Assembly (NA) as Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had resigned from his post.

Bol News had reported that the PML-Q and PM Imran had entered a settlement prior to the voting on the no-confidence motion, discussion on which will start from March 31, and therefore, Punjab CM had resigned.

In return, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had agreed to support Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as the candidate for the Punjab chief minister.
