ISLAMABAD: On the case of rejecting of the opposition’s no-confidence motion and dissolution of the assembly, veteran Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday said the Supreme Court’s verdict would either take the country forward or backward.

“The perpetrators should be punished under Article 6, so that nobody should breach the constitution next time. Who gave them the right to violated the constitution on the basis of power. In the past, dictators have broken the constitution on the basis of power,” Shahid Khaqan said talking to media in Islamabad.

He said Article 6 applied to the ones who breached the constitution. The so-called elected broke the constitution, he said.

The PML-N leader said Imran Khan violated the constitution in a bid to evade punishment for embezzlement as reports of his corruption were surfacing.

“Elections have taken secondary status now. Today’s the apex court’s test. Today is the day of decision of the country’s political, constitutional and legal history,” Khaqan said.

He said such decisions were taken in the past which were not accepted by anyone. No one could determine the damage caused by verdicts of the top court in the past, he added.

He said the prime minister, speaker, deputy speaker and others hatched the conspiracy. They would also try not to hold voting in the Punjab Assembly, he claimed.

Shahid Khaqan said the entire nation had set its eyes on the SC.
