ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari on Friday termed the Supreme Court’s verdict, on ruling of the National Assembly deputy speaker and dissolution of the assembly, a judicial coup.

“A judicial coup happened last night down to ordering how & even at what time NA session must be held, ending parliamentary supremacy! Sadly the issue of US attempt at regime change – the elephant in the room – which led to Deputy Speaker ruling was totally ignored. But this is not the end.

“The long shadows hanging over this judicial decision think the game has been won but frankly it has just started. The people know who sold their souls to the US & to lure of money & in the end it will go to people’s court, despite the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s inexplicable reluctance!,” Shireen Mazari tweeted.

In a landmark judgment, the top court on April 7 termed the deputy speaker’s ruling conflicting to the constitution and restored the dissolved National Assembly.

The court nullified all the measures taken by Imran Khan and President Arif Alvi and said the speaker could not adjourn National Assembly’s session without voting on no-confidence motion.

The court ordered to call the legislature’s session on Saturday (April 9) for voting on no-confidence motion. It also ordered to keep the voting process free of impediments.

Commenting on the opposition’s reaction to the Supreme Court’s verdict regarding dissolution of the National Assembly and rejection of the opposition’s no-confidence motion, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Senator Faisal Javed Khan on Friday said apparently the opposition thought it had won, but it had not.

“They have lost. Sweets go waste again. Mark my words. Only time will tell, Insha Allah. The masses have decided,” Faisal Javed tweeted.

He said Prime Minister Imran Khan knew how to face challenges. The Kaptaan would make an important announcement on Friday evening (today), he said adding that the PM would never disappoint his people.
