LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Sunday said the government would take action against those who sent notices to journalists under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022.
This she said in response to a question, while talking to journalists in Lahore. She said the government would definitely take action against those who sent the notices under the PECA act.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said journalists were gagged in the past and the Pakistan Muslim League-N stood then also with them and was standing now as well with the journalists.
“Today, Imran Khan was passing fatwas of traitors while on container. What did he do with the nation during four years of rule? He cannot answer that,” he said referring to Imran Khan’s Abbottabad speech.

The PML-N spokesperson said Imran Niazi, who was levelling allegations against others, was himself a thief. She said which atom bomb he had made that the US would conspire against him.
It is pertinent here to mention that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has summoned senior journalist and BOL News anchor Sami Ibrahim in person on May 13 at 11:00 a.m, under PECA’s Section 20, which criminalises defamation, according to an FIA notification. The notification stated that the journalist’s video “spread false and baseless claims against high government personnels.”
The notification further read that Ibrahim constructed a narrative with the goal of instilling fear, terror, insecurity, and unrest between government officials/military personnel and the general public.
