Terror alert: Section 144 imposed in Karachi’s district South, drones banned

KARACHI: The Sindh Home Department has banned flying quadcopters and imposed Section 144 in district South of Karachi, amid threat and fear of terrorism.

The Home Department said terrorists could target important buildings using drones. The provincial government has imposed the restrictions for sixty days. In a notification, it warned that action would be taken against those violating the orders.

On May 18, because of the surge in terrorist activities in Karachi, Inspector General of Police (IG) Sindh Mushtaq Mahar had been removed from his office.

The development had come after the third terror strike in a row in few days. Mushtaq Mahar had been directed to report to the establishment department.

The Sindh government had handed over the charge of IG Sindh Police to Dr Kamran Fazal, a BPS-21 police officer.

The sources had said that the decision was taken on the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Moreover, Karachi had braved three terror attack in a short span of time that had shook the entire province.
