Imran Khan challenges NAB law amendment in top court

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has challenged the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law amendment in the Supreme Court.
PTI Central Secretary Information Farrukh Habib in a tweet said PTI Chairman Imran Khan had filed a formal petition under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution challenging the NAB amendments in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. “The NAB has been practically shut down to prevent their own theft of over Rs 1,100 billion.
“Criminals and suspects cannot be judges of their own cases,” he said.
Imran Khan in a statement has said that face of the NAB law had been changed in a bid to protect the thieves former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz.

Announcing to resist against the NAB amendments, he said the evidence from abroad would not be admissible in the court after the amendments made by the corrupt government.
Senior advocate Khawaja Haris would fight the case in the apex court on behalf of Imran Khan. The former prime minister has pleaded to the court to annul the NAB law amendments by declaring them unconstitutional. He also requested to foil the attempt to declare misuse of power as legal.
Imran Khan in his petition has asked the top court to review the issue of changes in definition of benami account and an attempt to remove the Rs1100 billion cases sub judice before the NAB from its jurisdiction.
“Any further directions that may be deemed fair and proper to secure the fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan in the light of the facts and circumstances detailed in the instant petition may also be issued by this august court,” he said.
The centre and NAB have been made respondents in the case.
