KARACHI: In light of the court orders in the Dua Zehra case – the girl who went missing in April and later married to Zaheer Ahmed and claims her age to be of 18 years – the Sindh Home Department has allowed the police to bring the girl to Karachi from Lahore, BOL News learned on Thursday.

The sources in the know informed that a team of Sindh Police reached Lahore to bring Dua Zehra back to her hometown for the medical test ordered by court to determine her age.

DSP Shukar Shahani maintained that all legal avenues were being taken to present Zehra before the medical board- the largest ever 10-member board to conclude her age.

The girl will be shifted to Karachi after permission from the Lahore police, the DSP added.

Earlier, the court ordered a further investigation and the formation of a medical board in the Dua Zehra case.

After the orders, Sindh Health Department has formed 10-member medical board – considered the largest ever – to determine the age of the teenager.

According to a notification shared by lawyer Jibran Nasir, the medical board consists of experts from radiology, gynecology, dentistry and forensics.

The board will be chaired by Dow Medical College Principal Prof Saba Sohail. The board consists of Medical Superintendent Services Hospital Dr Zubair Agha and police surgeon Dr Summiya Syed along with experts from different departments.

During her court appearance, Dua Zehra claimed she was 18 years of age while a medical test ordered by the Sindh High Court determined she was aged around 17. Her parents claim she is aged 14 and thus the marriage is illegal as per Sindh’s laws.
