ISLAMABAD: Police have recovered a pistol and live rounds from a man trying to enter the Parade Ground in Islamabad, where Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI)’s public rally is going to take place shortly, Bol news channel reported on Saturday.

The person carrying the weapon has been identified as Abdul Ghani, a worker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Health Department.

Police said a 30 bore pistol and 10 rounds were recovered from his possession at the entry point of the public rally ground. Police have arrested the man and investigation is underway.

On Saturday morning, PTI Secretary General Asad Umar, Omar Ayub Khan and others visited the venue and reviewed arrangements.

Asad Umar said the government made all efforts to spoil the event but the authorities designated the event for public gatherings after directives from the Islamabad High Court.

He said no party has ever held a rally on such a large ground except Imran Khan. He said their team worked overnight and made the best possible arrangements. He urged all party workers to reach the venue on time.

Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed will hold a rally at his Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi led by his nephew Rashid Shafique before reaching the venue.
