LAHORE: PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should provide the funding details of other political parties notably the PML-N and PPP within fifteen days to know their sources of funding.
Addressing a press conference, the former minister questioned the role of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for summoning party leaders in the funding case, but reaffirmed they will provide all details.
He said a case will be filed against Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Attaullah Tarar and Malik Ahmed Khan for lodging false cases against PTI leaders and workers. He said they should cooperate in the probe for attacking and torturing PTI activists.
“Rana Sanaullah should thinking highly of himself. He is merely the SHO of Kohsar police station,” he said, adding that the Model Town massacre case will also be revisited.
Fawad acknowledged that FIA has summoned PTI leaders including Asad Qaisar, Imran Ismail and Ali Zaidi in the funding case, while four PTI employees have also been issued notices.
He said the party received funding during the 2013 general elections and all transactions are under recorded. He said an impression is being given as if billions were received, whereas in fact they received 20 million rupees in 13 banks accounts being probed by FIA.
While recalling a verdict of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to conduct a funding audit of political parties to ensure transparency, he said the PTI is the only political party that has provided its details and it is the responsibility of the ECP to conducting funding audit of other parties.
He said a case will be filed to provide the funding audit of PPP and PML-N within 15 days as the scrutiny has been completed, while funding of other parties such as JUI-F should be probed to know the source of funding.
He revealed that the funding audit of the PML-N has not been completed by an approved auditor as the accounts were being managed by a personal accountant of Ishaq Dar. He said neither the source of funding is given nor has the party received contribution from party members.
He further said the PML-N spent Rs1.3 billion on media campaign but no details have been provided. He said the PML-N registered a company in London and used it to gather funds as front for money laundering. He said the ECP should hear the case and release the funding details.
Regarding the PPP headed by Asif Ali Zardari and PPP-P headed by Bilawal Bhutto, he said the party received funds from parliamentarians which is a violation of law, while neither party has provided their sources of funds. He said the PPP’s accounts are not audited and even certification of the party president was missing.
He said the PTI will challenge the ECP’s decision in the funding case after Muharram holidays. He asked why the ECP is protecting other parties and should release the funding details of PML-N, PPP, JUI-F and other political parties.
He said the PTI is ruling over eighty percent of the country. “This is one versus the rest,” he said, adding that the middle-class people support Imran Khan. He said the government is afraid that Imran Khan will win by two-thirds majority of elections are held.
