Orange line BRT starts commercial operation in Karachi
KARACHI: Sharjeel Inam Memon, Transport Minister of Sindh stated on Saturday that the Orange Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Service had begun commercial operations.
Sharjeel Inam Memon, the provincial government’s spokesperson, stated that the initiative has been launched for the people of Karachi. “Every day, almost 24,000 people can use modern public transportation,” he asserted.
According to the provincial minister, the Orange Line BRT Service has been integrated with the Green Bus Service. “Both BRT Services have their own ticketing system,” said the Transport Minister.
The Orange Line corridor extends 3.88 kilometers from Orangi Town to the Board Office traffic intersection. It has five stations and a depot that can accommodate 30 buses.
In May, the Sindh government renamed the Orange Line BRT project after the late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi as the Abdul Sattar Edhi Line.
Former Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah inaugurated the project in June 2016 to assist around 50,000 residents of Orangi Town. Since its inception in 2016, the project was scheduled to be completed within a year.
