ISLAMABAD: United States Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome on Tuesday called on Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and discussed bilateral matters.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, both agreed on bolstering trade relations between Pakistan and the US.

FM Bilawal and Ambassador Blome discussed the rehabilitation of the people affected by the catastrophic floods across Pakistan. Bilawal appreciated US support in post-flood recovery and rehabilitation.

The foreign minister thanked the US Ambassador for ensuring the provision of aid and assistance to the affectees. He also reiterated increasing investment in green energy.

The two dignitaries also spoke about advancing mutual relations during their discussion in the foreign office.  They reaffirmed widening bilateral ties and discussed regional and global issues.

Earlier this month, the United States announced an additional $10 million for flood relief assistance for Pakistan in addition to the previously announced $56.5 million in humanitarian aid,

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced an additional $10 million in food security support to the people of Pakistan  after meeting Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called at the State Department building in Washington.

Bilawal apprised Secretary Blinken about the devastation caused by the cataclysmic floods with more than 33 million people displaced and a huge loss of lives and livelihoods.  He highlighted the relief efforts of the Government of Pakistan and thanked the US government for its assistance.

The foreign minister said no country could deal with a crisis of this proportion on its own. He emphasized that Pakistan is one of the lowest emitters and was ironically one of the most severely impacted by climate change.

He said that Pakistan was seeking climate Justice and looked toward its partners to assist us in recovering from this climate-induced calamity.

Bilawal said that Pakistan was committed to building back better, greener and climate-resilient infrastructure in areas such as irrigation, communication, energy, agri-technology, and health. He siad immediate action is required to help developing countries effectively face the climate crisis.
