ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda has claimed that the conspiracy to murder senior journalist Arshad Sharif was hatched in Pakistan.

Addressing the press conference at National Press Club, the PTI leader said Arshad Sharif was shot from a close range. He said no evidence will be found on his laptop or mobile phone as it has already been deleted.

Vawda claimed that he was in contact with the journalist since the day Arshad Sharif left the country. He offered to give his phone for forensics to prove that he was in touch with him.

He said Arshad was trapped as he trusted people close to him.  He further claimed that Arshad Sharif’s murder was “pre-planned” and its conspiracy was hatched in Pakistan. “He was trapped by conspirators from Dubai till Kenya. It was a cold-blooded plan.”

He said Arshad Sharif was ready to come to Pakistan but the conspirators plotted to kill him so that the real story would not be revealed.

He dismissed the version of the Kenyan police who claimed that around 20 bullets were fired at his car, saying that only two bullets were fired at him.

“He was fired from close range or inside the car. He received two bullets, in the head and chest, not 20 bullets,” added. He also raised over claims that a child was abducted and present in the car.

Faisal Vawda claimed that evidence, including Sharif’s mobile phone and laptop, would not be found as they have been erased. He maintained that Arshad Sharif was “chosen to be killed in Kenya by those who want to break the country.”

Faisal Vawda vowed that he will bring out the names of the killers in a few days. He said many important personalities will be named but will not succumb to any pressure to expose them.

“I made a video and have given names of those people. I have paid millions of dollars. I have a clear message, if I am shot and killed then you’ll be killed too,” Vawda said.

Faisal Vawda also claimed that the establishment had been in contact with Arshad Sharif. “He was ready to come back to Pakistanm,” he said, adding that it needs to be seen who benefits the most from Arshad’s killing.

“It was said that establishment or an unnamed institution put pressure to get him out, but this is also false and a lie,” he said

He said Arshad Sharif had good relations with the establishment and stayed in Dubai till his visa expired. He said that long march has been announced by Imran Khan and he will make the final decision.
