KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) adjourned the hearing on Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem’s petition against K Electric without proceeding.
A hearing was held in the Sindh High Court on Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman’s petition against KE for charging heavy charges in the form of fuel adjustment and tax in the electricity bill.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman appeared in the SHC along with his lawyer Advocate Usman Farooq.
The JI lawyer said in the court that KE should be restrained from collecting over-billing, and fuel adjustment charges and should also be restrained from collecting sales tax, income tax, TV license fee, and other charges.
Advocate Usman Farooq said that a forensic audit of K-Electric’s accounts should be conducted and KE should be stopped from illegal power cuts, especially at night.
In the petition filed in the Sindh High Court, it was stated that KE should be ordered to generate its own electricity as per the agreement with the Federation.
The petition further said that measures should be ordered to increase power generation and efficiency.
The court adjourned the hearing till November 09 without proceeding and directed all the parties to prepare for the next hearing.
While talking to the media outside Sindh High Court, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said that the hearing of cases of public interest should be ensured as JI is in the courts for the public interest.
He said that the court remarked that whatever relief was given will be applied from the past, and as a result of JI efforts, there was a reduction of more than four rupees per unit.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that JI runs the local government elections campaign in the night hours but in the morning we are in the courts in the interest of the people.
