SHC orders action against billboards, hoardings

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday ordered effective action against billboards and hoardings.

Justice Irfan Saadat of the Sindh High Court ordered the removal of signboards from flyovers, pedestrian bridges, and all other public properties.

He remarked that action will also be taken against government officials who install illegal boards.

He further remarked that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had issued directives for the removal of billboards from public proprieties including pedestrian bridges, over-head bridges, services liens, and others.

The apex court  order should be strictly implemented.

Justice Irfan Saadat said the court will also review the actions across the city by appointing an observer.

SHC orders Sindh Government, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, and all Cantonment Boards to submit a report on November 15

The Supreme Court ordered a ban on billboards and hoardings on October 17, 2018.

Advertising companies have moved in the court against the Cantonment Board’s tax levy on billboards.

In 2018, the Supreme Court had ordered a ban on billboards, hoardings, and Pendaflex on public properties in a Suo-moto case.

On the other hand, Chief Justice of Sindh High Court Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh took notice of gang-rape of a flood victim girl in Karachi.

The DIG South and SSP investigation South-I called on October 27 in a personal capacity.

According to the Registrar Sindh High Court, police officers should appear with the report regarding the investigation of the incident.
