Two women, newborn killed as roof collapses in Karachi

KARACHI: Two women and a newborn child were killed on Wednesday evening as the roof of their house caved in Kalakot area of Karachi, BOL News reported.

The incident occurred in Usmanabad within the limits of Kalakot Police Station. Police reached the site of the incident and shifted the bodies to the hospital.  The bodies of the deceased were later moved to a mortuary in Kalakot.

The women were identified as Zubaida w/o Nadeem, aged 37 years, and her daughter Asmeen aged 18 years. The newborn child is said to be eight days old.

According to police, they received reports about the roof of an old house collapsing in Kalakot area.
Police rushed to the site where rescue officials pulled them from the debris.

Another man who was severely injured was rushed to the hospital where he is in critical condition. He was identified as 17-year-old Qadir Lal Khan who is said to be the father the newborn.

Rescue workers and police initially said there were reports that a newborn child who was in the house was buried under the debris. Later, rescue workers managed to pull the body of the newborn from the debris after a search.

Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori took notice of the incident and strongly condemned the loss of lives. He directed Karachi Commissioner to provide a report of the incident and instructed to provide treatment and all form of assistance to the aggrieved family.
