KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has expedited efforts to pick the next administrator of Hyderabad, BOL News reported.

In this regard, MQM-P has contacted a member of the provincial government to appoint the next administrator of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC).

The party has picked the names of Rashid Khan and Farooq Ahmed for the post. Farooq Ahmed is Grade-19 officer of the HMC. Sources revealed that both names are being considered for the post as part of a deal between the PPP and MQM.

Earlier the Sindh government appointed bureaucrat Dr Saifur Rehman as the administrator of Karachi. He was previously serving as the principal secretary to Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori. He has also served as Municipal Commissioner KMC, Deputy Commissioner Karachi Central, and Secretary Health Balochistan.

He replaced Barrister Murtaza Wahab who resigned from the post more than two months ago. He mentioned being unable to continue serving as the administrator due to “personal reasons”.

It must be mentioned that much-delayed local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions are scheduled to be held on 15 January 2023.

Murtaza Wahab was appointed as the Karachi administrator in August 2021 to look after the administrative and municipal affairs of the city before the local government elections.
