Court sends Azam Swati to jail on 14-day judicial remand

ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad remanded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Senator Azam Swati, in judicial custody for 14 days in the case related to controversial tweets.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had filed an application seeking judicial remand in the court of Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Shabbir Bhatti before the four-day physical remand was over.

During the hearing, the judicial magistrate accepted the FIA’s request, directing Swati to appear on December 15.

“We have completed the investigation, no further investigation is required,” the FIA ​​told the court, requesting the court to send Azam Swati on judicial remand before the physical remand ends.

Senator Azam Swati was taken into custody earlier this week for the second time after a raid at his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad by the FIA’s Cybercrime Wing Islamabad in the case related to a controversial tweet.

He was later produced before a judicial magistrate, who handed him over to the FIA on a two-day physical remand. Two days later, his physical remand was extended by an additional four days.

On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf women’s wing protested against Azam Swati’s arrest outside the Supreme Court registry yesterday.

The women’s wing of PTI also demanded the immediate release of Azam Swati and took immediate notice from the Supreme Court.

It has been argued in the petition that Senator Azam Swati has illegally been arrested on political ground political grounds therefore the Supreme Court should take notice.
